This existing 11 storey Hospital was reclad in Schuco curtain walling whilst still in full operation. It is situated on a very exposed site, on a hill, in the North West of Northern Ireland. Due to the proximity of the local Police Station, the Hospital Trust recognised the potential risk from a terrorist attack and it was decided that the two facades facing the police station would be installed using curtain walling and tilturn windows that had been tested to a specified blast loading. The other facades were clad in Schuco curtain walling with Pivot window inserts. Due to its exposed location, the design windload was specified at 3500N/m2, which led to extensive off-site testing for air and water.
